I hoped I might

Monday, November 1st, 2010

I remember the first website (2002) I created with my great friend Greg (this guy is crushing it at a world level), I remember feeling like having a website meant that I made it!  kinda.  It made it official, (just like a relationship status on Facebook) I was telling the world that I was a motivational speaker.

Despite all my insecurities and questioning if I was good enough to actually get paid to share my message, the website looked confident.

Despite all my financial concerns of diving into the unknown world as an entrepreneur, my website looked credible.

Despite the fact that when the site was created I had never been paid to speak to anyone (didn’t even have 1 story to tell.)  Today, (8 years / 1000 presentations / 400,000 students later) I am credible and confident.

What’s my point?

I didn’t know then that I would ever get paid to speak to students… I hoped I might.

I didn’t know then that I would ever be picked up by a recognized speaking bureau… I hoped I might.

I didn’t know then if I could support my family doing what I loved… I hoped I might.

Why all the … I hoped I might.   Because for the last month I have been in a program that forces me to / allows me to / inspires me to / dares me to …dream.  www.mightclub.org

That’s right.   1 hour a day / 3 days a week… I get to focus on my dreams.

And just like that, I am back to square one… the doubting, the questioning, the lack of confidence…

I love it.

What’s my point?  Dreams take time.  Get to work on your dreams. I will be.

Help me get Brett Dennen to record a song I wrote

A few weeks ago, I was playing music with one of my best friends Patrick and shared with him that Santana, Kai (his first live performance) and I were going to see Brett Dennen (March 28th, 2009) in concert.

I played a song that I wrote a few years back (the only one I ever wrote pretty much). He commented how much he liked the song and that he always felt that it was good enough to get airplay on the radio. (while I knew he was exaggerating a little) I appreciated the compliment. I explained to him that I love music, goofing around with a guitar and writing songs, however I am not a musician…He then suggested that I record my song and give it to Brett Dennen personally when I see him this week.

So here it is… Garage Band rocks… If you have a mac you already know this… and it took less than 10 minutes to make.

If you know someone, who knows someone, who knows someone, who knows Brett Dennen… let him know that you know.

To say that it would be a dream would be cliche but very true.

With hopes that you be bold and take actions towards your dreams.

Peace and There YOU Are! Justin
